經濟
希拉蕊和川普兩人均質疑自由貿易所可能帶來的好處，並且都有意重新協商目前的好幾項貿易協定，包括跨太平洋夥伴協定（TPP）。
川普希望能透過振興製造業，來增加就業機會，希拉蕊除了計劃增加在製造業的投資外，也打算擴張在基礎建設、乾淨能源、科學研究等領域的投資金額。
在稅收方面，川普想將企業稅下修至15%，並提供中產階級稅賦減免，希拉蕊也打算提供低薪家庭減稅方案，並計劃為工作機會明顯減少的製造業領域提供投資的稅賦優惠。
移民
川普打算在美國和墨西哥的邊界蓋一座高牆、遣返所有有犯罪紀錄的外籍人士、向居留證過期的外籍人士祭出更高額的罰款，並取消無證移民孩子的「出生公民權」。
希拉蕊希望能為美國的無身分移民建立一個取得公民身份的管道。
希拉蕊表示，她的政策能讓家庭聚在一起，並讓數百萬計的勞工「走出陰影」。
希拉蕊也打算關閉私人收留所、支持移民融入美國社會。
環保
希拉蕊陣營打算力抗氣候變遷，並且擴大乾淨能源的相關政策；相較之下，川普陣營對環保議題就沒有太多著墨，他們甚至稱煤炭是一種「乾淨的能源資源」。
